GPHI All Hands Meeting, Fall 2026

On Tuesday, September 15th, members of GPHI and ESRA gathered for an All Hands Meeting held at NASA GSFC. Dr. Zhibo Zhang, GPHI Director, led the meeting with opening remarks and a review of the history of GPHI. Researchers shared their scopes of study, which ranges from Space Weather, Solar Physics, Heliospheric Physics, and Geospace Physics; researchers themselves ranged from early career to senior faculty. After a quick review of the roles of ESRA staff members, the group discussed issues at hand.

The meeting included lunch and a Brown Bag talk by Ariadna Farres, who is part of the Flight Dynamics Team for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which launched on August 30, 2026 from Kennedy Space Center. She shared the excitement of the launch from the Flight Dynamics Facility at NASA Goddard and discussed the design for the RST to loop into a “quasi-halo” orbit around Lagrange Point 2 (L2), and other highlights in working on this mission. (Within the RST site, you can learn the difference between RST and Hubble Space Telescope and the difference between RST and the James Webb Space Telescope.)
